In the summer of 2015, US Soccer, in a move to improve youth soccer, announced significant changes in order to advance the skill and intelligence of youth players, as well as align better with international standards.

The changes are two-pronged and go into effect for the 2016‑17 season:

  • Small-sided play will be mandated nationally at U12 and below.
  • Age groups will be organized by calendar year birth dates.

Please note that ALL youth soccer clubs MUST implement the mandated changes for the 2016-17 travel league and tournament playing cycle.
